News for Thornton, Tyquan
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Tyquan Thornton (ankle) will miss 12-16 weeks.
2026-10-05 16:00:02
Thornton is having surgery “within the week” with the hopes of being able to return late in the season or in the playoffs for the Chiefs. Xavier Worthy will likely shift up in the target pecking order absent an outside addition. Cyrus Allen could also get more run than he has over the first month of the season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Tyquan Thornton is out indefinitely after suffering a dislocated ankle in Week 4 against the Raiders.

The good news is that Thornton’s ankle was successfully put back into place by team doctors, and he was able to take the plane home with his teammates. He will have a full evaluation on Monday morning and is expected to seek a second opinion. Rapoport adds that Thornton is in good spirits. Rashee Rice also notably injured his hamstring today. Per The Athletic’s Mike Silver, the Chiefs have already contacted Tyreek Hill’s (knee) agent to discuss a reunion. The Chiefs are looking for help in their wide receiver room.

Tyquan Thornton (ankle) was carted from the field in the fourth quarter of Week 4’s game against the Raiders.

Thornton was in the midst of a big day. After already scoring two touchdowns, the former second-rounder hauled in a 55-yard catch from Patrick Mahomes and suffered a gruesome ankle injury when he was tackled by Treydan Stukes. Thornton attempted to stand up and celebrate the big play, only to notice the injury, and immediately went down before being carted from the field. This has the look of a season-ending injury for Thornton, who caught 5-of-8 targets for 111 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

Tyquan Thornton failed to catch his only target in the Chiefs’ Week 1 win over the Broncos.
2026-09-15 01:00:02
As has been the case in recent history, the Chiefs struggled to attack the deep areas of the field, something exacerbated by the fact that Patrick Mahomes was playing in his first game since tearing his ACL. In fact, Thornton’s lone target was the only pass directed further than 30 yards downfield, shocking nobody when it fell incomplete on an overthrown ball down the sideline. Thornton can safely be returned to, or left on, the waiver wire ahead of a Week 2 matchup against the Colts.

Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton (hamstring) resumed practicing on Wednesday.
2026-08-19 14:00:02
Thornton left Tuesday’s practice early after reportedly straining a hamstring. Apparently, it was a very mild strain. The Chiefs’ field-stretching wide receiver was back in pads, practicing on Wednesday. We do not yet know if he was a full participant, but it seems as though he is good to go.
