Texans GM Nick Caserio said he expects to eventually reach a deal on a contract extension with C.J. Stroud. 2026-10-26 12:00:01 Speaking on Monday with the media, Caserio said that “nobody is discouraged” with how negotiations with Stroud and his agent have gone thus far, saying that the two sides just “couldn’t quite come to an agreement” yet. Stroud is in the fourth year of his rookie contract and had his fifth-year option picked up by the team earlier this offseason. He will be under contract through the 2027 regardless of how negotiations go, but we would expect him to sign a long-term extension at some point next offseason to avoid this becoming an issue come training camp. Despite the Texans’ 2-5 start to the season, Stroud has been mostly solid, throwing for 1,867 yards, 11 touchdowns, and one interception while completing 64.8 percent of his passes. |

C.J. Stroud completed 17-of-28 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns in Houston’s 27-21, Week 7 loss to the Giants. 2026-10-25 17:00:02 The Texans seemed to always be playing from well behind the sticks today with 10 penalties and Stroud was let down by a ghastly drop from Marvin Harrison Jr. with someone in his face in the fourth quarter. The Giants did a better job than other teams had at getting interior pressure on Stroud. Still, it wasn’t a bad game outside of an immediate overtime three-and-out, one that was punctuated by a dropped pick by Kayvon Thibodeaux. Stroud heads into the bye as a reasonable high-end QB2 with a Week 9 matchup against the Chargers. |

C.J. Stroud completed 24-of-34 passes for 312 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Houston’s 34-31, Week 6 win over the Jaguars. 2026-10-18 14:00:03 The Texans running game was mostly abandoned until the fourth quarter, leaving Stroud to wail on an overmatched Jaguars secondary. His best throw was probably on Houston’s final possession of the first half, as he dotted a 50-yard throw with a defender in his face to Jaylin Noel, eventually setting up (checking notes) Foster Moreau’s second touchdown of the day. Stroud has now thrown for six touchdowns and gone over 260 yards in each of his last three games; he’s suddenly in the high-end QB2 competition with bye weeks hitting as the Texans host the Giants in Week 7. |

C.J. Stroud completed 26-of-34 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown in Houston’s 26-3, Week 5 win over the Titans. 2026-10-11 16:00:02 He added a rushing touchdown on a goal-to-go red zone keeper. The Texans offense continues to bog down with penalties and bad runs — they went into half with four field goals — but Stroud was able to pilot the ship well enough to keep things reasonable until the Titans defense broke in the second half. He’ll head to London next week to face the Jaguars, yet another team that should keep him throwing given how good their run defense is, so he’ll be a mid-range QB2 for that one. |

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said he is open to leaning more into the passing game. 2026-09-29 14:00:02 “The thing for me about offensive football is you have to make sure you move the ball and try to score as many points as possible,” Ryans is quoted as saying by the Houston Chronicle. “How that looks to me, it really doesn’t matter. You can think or want to be a certain thing. But if you’re shown that that’s not the case and it’s not getting done, then you have to adjust. That’s where we are.” The Texans already abandoned the run against the Bengals in Week 2, throwing the ball 55 times. Perhaps Nico Collins’ return this week will raise all ships, but if it was as simple as the Texans needing to throw more, they probably would have scored more than six points against the Bengals. C.J. Stroud has a streamable matchup against the Cowboys this week if it all comes together. |
